Must-Read Homeschool Books
Normal Sucks: How to Live, Learn, and Thrive Outside the Lines by Jonathan Mooney
Jonathan Mooney was the first author to ever join us on the podcast and it was an hour we’ll never forget. He’s positively incredible! This book explores the in-depth history of the word “normal” and why our society seems so hellbent on achieving it. This book will be especially powerful if you’re homeschooling an ADHD or dyslexic kiddo, but is truly a must read for all. It embodies the cheesy review concept of “you’ll laugh… you’ll cry.”
The Emotional Lives of Teenagers by Dr. Lisa Damour
Lisa Damour could easily be dubbed “the teenage whisperer.” Meagan praises this book for saving her sanity anytime things go off the rails in teen land. What Dr. Spock was to 1950’s housewives and mothers… this book is to teen parents of the 21st century!
Differently Wired by Deborah Reber
If you’re parenting a neurodivergent child (and yes, that includes giftedness!!), this book is an absolute must-read. It was a game changer for both of us. It will be a podcast book selection in season two, so grab your copy and join the conversation.
Better Than College by Blake Boles
Admittedly, this book leans into unschooling and is more of a Meagan favorite than an overall favorite. It isn’t necessarily anit-college, but explores what life might look like if teens and young adults explore different life paths.
